FAQs

Will I have to pay for my treatment at the Lister Surgicentre?

You will not have to pay for your treatment or stay with us as the NHS meets the cost.

Why am I being treated at the Lister Surgicentre?

The Lister Surgicentre has been built as part of a reconfiguration of medical services available within the East and North Hertfordshire area. The Lister Surgicentre now delivers a large majority of planned surgical operations and with the exception of the children service, the entire Ophthalmology service including the community clinics.

What if I need to change my appointment?

If you would like to change your appointment you can contact us by telephone. Please contact our main switchboard number, 0845 124 7557. It is important that you tell us at least 24 hours in advance.

How soon will I be back home after my treatment?

This, of course depends on the nature of your treatment, a lot of our patients need only daycase surgery. Our holistic approach to your care through our Enhanced Recovery programme will ensure that your stay with us is as short as possible.

What do I need to bring with me for daycase surgery?

Your appointment card or letter, your personal details, including your current address and telephone number, a clean dressing gown, any prescription medication you need to take during the day, mobile phone and charger, the name and contact details of the friend or relative who will be collecting you from hospital.

And if I need to stay overnight?

You should bring with you well fitting slippers (not backless), your own walking aids, loose fitting night clothes of a reasonable length, another day supply of your medication and toiletries including wet wipes.

What about car parking?

Patients and visitors to the Lister Surgicentre can use any of the pay and display car parks on the Lister Hospital site. Spaces are limited so it can sometimes be difficult to find a space.

What are the visiting hours?

Friends and relatives are welcome to visit inpatients between 2.00pm and 4.00pm and 6.00pm and 8.00pm and should report to the Swift Ward on level 5. If you need to have visitors outside of these hours please speak to the nurse in charge.  If you are a daycase patient visitors may stay and wait or visting can be arranged with your nurse on the day.
